An Ode To the Lost City of Atlantis
Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 Collection, Plato’s Atlantis, was a Poseidon adventure at its grandest scale during Paris Fashion Week. Reptile printed garments with space age silhouettes and kaleidoscope patterned textiles in vibrant hues set the tone for this deep sea-inspired collection. The show was an amazingly executed spectacle that was tautly constructed with each and every detail. It was set on an abbreviated catwalk with the models circling parallel tracks with cameras mounted on robotic arms. In the background a screen projected the shadowed profiles of the models. Paris Fashion Week: Balmain Is the Bomb!
Christophe Decarnin worked designer magic on the Balmain Spring 2009 Collection. The designs were so inspiring — flirty silhouettes, brilliant color, and dazzling details.
The banded and wrapped details in these candy-colored, slim-silhouetted tube dresses add a contemporary flair.
Ballerina-esque cocktail frocks are dazzling with gem-encrusted details and tiers of tulle. Love those diamanté studded sandals.
The squared off shoulders in these military and tuxedo inspired jackets adds and edgy allure when paired with distressed and decondtructed gem-embellished jeans. Adore the quirkiness of this high-end, kitsch collection.

Paris Fashion Week: Nips for Nina?
This season we’ve seen myriad collections feature transparent fashions from figure-hugging tunics to frilly frocks. But nothing this raunchy. Olivier Theyskens‘ collection for Nina Ricci has some interesting details like dresses cut high in the front with fishtail trains in the back, cut-out three-quarter sleeves, and inside out seams, but the real jaw dropper are the looks with see through bodices. That wouldn’t be as shocking if not for the fact that there was nothing beneath them.
Then there was the panties with a tuxedo style jacket. It looks like Theyskens went a bit overboard with the idea of underwear as outerwear. I was hard-pressed to find a high note in the collection. If there was a light (although dim) at the end of this tunnel it had to be in the choice of luxurious fabrics. There were gowns galore in silk georgette and satin. There also was this fashion-forward leather riding suit with jodhpur-esque pants and curved collar jacket.
What are your thoughts on the Ricci collection?
