That’s Haute: Betsey Johnson is Pretty in Punk

by Krysti Lozinski

Betsey Johnson and Krysti Lozinski

San Francisco — Walking into a Betsey Johnson store is like stepping into punk Barbieʼs closet, but ever wonder what itʼd be like if punk Barbie threw a party? This past Wednesday, I found out.

Betseyʼs ultra-pink, ultra-fabulous Geary Street store was filled with edgy fashionistas clad in her signature designs. Tulle skirts, animal prints, platform pumps, black leather glovelettes, and of course, DRESSES! Betsey was particularly impressed with the array of her vintage creations that fans had pulled out of their closets, and sheʼs vowed to bring back many of her classic designs.

Itʼs also been rumored that several Betsey-ites are sending their vintage pieces to her studio so that she can re-create them for distribution. Keep your eye on the racks in 2010 — thereʼs a good chance youʼll find a revival of your fave Betsey classics. Read the rest of this entry »

That’s Haute: Barbie Gets Her First Pair Of Louboutin’s

World Wide Web — Christian Louboutin has created a limited edition Barbie for us grown up girls. A $900 pair of Louboutin shoes may not be in the holiday budget, but a $150 collectors edition Christian Louboutin Barbie is not too shabby.

But, if you want this beauty, you’ll have to put it on the wish list because currently, net-a-porter.com is out of stock. No wonder either, the ‘cat burgular’ Barbie pictured above in a skin-tight catsuit comes with four pairs of mini Louboutin shoes —  including the leopard print “Altameche” knee-high boots, the metallic gold “Differa” sandal (on Barbie), the ”Miss” ankle boots, and the hot pink “Claudia” peep-toe heels. They all have red soles, too!

There are even tiny Louboutin boxes and bags for the shoes as well as a Paris travel journal. Trés Chic.

More Louboutin Barbies will be released in 2010. We can’t wait!

That’s Haute: Yves Saint Laurent Documentary

ysl_dvdIt may not be a docu-drama of the violent sort, but the self-narrated Yves Saint Laurent documentary about his life, slated to be released in November, is catty couture at it’s best. The legendary designer dishes on his fashion rival, the iconic Coco Chanel and her allegations during a 1968 interview on “Dim Dam Dom,” a TV show for French women, that he copied her designs. Below is Laurent’s rebuttle to Chanel’s accusations:

“First of all, I’m very flattered that Mademoiselle Chanel deigned to take an interest in what I’m doing and that she designated me her successor. But I am not at all in agreement when she says I copy her … I think also the big difference between me and Mademoiselle Chanel is that I try to bring women a style that allows them to adapt their style to my dresses and allows them to develop their personalities. While a woman who wears Chanel resembles Mademoiselle Chanel.” [WWD]
