:: CHIC IN 3 DAYS
Here are three simple steps to achieving style:
Day 1
I know you think I am going to send you shopping for new gear, well I am, but not just yet; you have some spring cleaning to do first. Go through your closet, storage boxes and attic—wherever you store your wears and do a comprehensive inventory. Create three piles—a keep pile, a maybe pile and a donation pile. This is always the difficult stage, discarding items, but you can only vow so many times that something will either be back in fashion or fit some day. So unless you have a closet the size of Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City (HBO 1998-2004 below), then it’s time to make room for what you wear now and move on. Pack up the donation pile and have those items picked up immediately. Remember, your trash is another’s treasure.
Day 2
Nope, it’s not shopping day yet; now you need to revisit your maybe pile from day one. The pile may include sentimental items like your wedding dress or the sneakers you wore when you ran the marathon, either way, enough said, there are just some things us girls just can’t part with. So place these items in airtight storage containers and back to the attic they go. No attic? The back of the closet will work too. Now you should have a pile of items you use frequently (at least 4 times per year). It is important to evaluate whether you have the essentials for every divas wardrobe—this is also when you’ll determine what of your keep pile really needs to be discarded. I mean really, those Cole Haan driving moccasins may be your most comfortable shoes to wear with your favorite jeans, but if the seam of the shoe is tattered and torn or the sole is worn, then it’s time to say bye-bye. This holds true for most things—if you can get it repaired at a fraction of what new will cost, then it’s a keeper, if not, discard and move on.
Day 3
Now you have your keepers, so this is the big day. Time to go shopping!. For the stylish diva on the go there are a few staples that are essential for a well put together wardrobe, view our Chic Top 10 for more details.
